Job SummaryThe Yard Hostler is responsible for safely moving trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard to support efficient warehouse, dock, and transportation operations. This role plays a key part in maintaining smooth freight flow, yard organization, and on-time departures while adhering to all safety and compliance standards.
First & Second Shift Available
Key ResponsibilitiesMove trailers between yard locations, docks, and staging areas using a yard tractor (spotter truck)Spot and position trailers accurately at dock doors for loading and unloadingConduct pre- and post-move inspections of yard equipment and trailersMaintain constant awareness of yard conditions, pedestrians, and equipment trafficRecord trailer movements and yard activity as requiredCommunicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and transportation teamsEnsure yard organization, including proper alignment and spacing of trailersFollow all safety protocols, company policies, and DOT guidelines (when applicable)Qualifications & RequirementsValid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required (depending on site)Previous yard hostler, yard jockey, or spotter experience preferredAbility to safely operate yard tractor and handle frequent trailer movesStrong attention to safety and detailAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsCapability to climb in/out of equipment and perform light physical tasksReliable attendance and strong work ethic
