Job Description

Bus Mechanic – Diesel Technician

Aerotek is hiring a Bus Mechanic / Diesel Technician to perform maintenance and repair on transit buses. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in diesel engines, electrical systems, and fleet maintenance who can work independently in a shop and outdoor environment.

Job Description:

  • Perform maintenance and repair on transit buses and heavy vehicles
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical systems, including multiplex systems
  • Complete minor engine and transmission repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance such as brake service and oil changes
  • Inspect and repair bus air conditioning (AC) systems
  • Complete body work and basic repairs on bus interiors and exteriors
  • Conduct pre- and post-repair inspections to ensure safety and quality
  • Manage multiple work orders daily and document completed work
  • Use hand and power tools to complete mechanical and repair tasks
  • Work in shop and outdoor environments while following safety procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues on buses and fleet vehicles
  • Perform brake, engine, and transmission maintenance and repairs
  • Inspect buses thoroughly before and after service
  • Complete up to 10 work orders per day with accuracy and efficiency
  • Document repairs, deferred work, and service details
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Work independently and collaborate with team members as needed

Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of experience as a Bus Mechanic, Diesel Technician, or Automotive Technician
  • Experience working on buses, trucks, or heavy-duty vehicles
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and diagnostics (including multiplex systems)
  • Experience with diesel engines, brakes, and general fleet maintenance
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools effectively
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs per day
  • Basic computer skills for documenting work orders
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with major automotive brands such as Ford or Chevrolet
  • Technical school or formal training in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment repair
  • Welding experience for minor repairs
  • Prior experience in a bus or fleet maintenance environment
  • Experience working in or alongside union shops

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
