Job Description

Purpose
The Network and Systems Specialist maintains the overall operation and security of network, server and application system hardware and operating system, hosted applications, and associated equipment. Such systems include, but are not limited to POS, access control, surveillance, other centrally hosted software solutions, and classroom technologies. The Network and Systems Specialist regularly monitors system performance and makes recommendations for improved operability and efficiency, as well as configures backup solutions and assists with disaster recovery planning. This position also oversees and maintains classroom and lab environments and provides recommendations for improving technology for instruction.

Duties
1. Maintain operation and security, configure backups, perform regular updates, and lead technical support for server and application systems and associated equipment as well as keep documentation current.
2. Maintain the operation and security of point of sales , and other campus ID card systems.
3. Maintain the operation and security of campus security systems including access control, surveillance, and other networked monitoring systems.
4. Coordinates with outside vendors to complete projects as well as to create and escalate service tickets to arrange support.
5. Designs, deploys, and maintains classroom/lab and public computer equipment and infrastructure.
6. Ensures that all software installed on classroom/lab computers and on faculty computers is properly licensed and maintains records as proof.
7. Regularly monitor system performance and data utilization and recommend hardware, software, and automation needs.
8. Maintains enterprise equipment inventory to ensure records remain current and accurate.
9. Assists with the implementation, operation, and security of server and networking infrastructure not limited to switches, access points, host servers, enterprise storage and NAS appliances.
10. Assists with scheduled maintenance as well as disaster recovery planning and backup recovery.
11. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
12. Requires occasional evening or weekend hours.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision
Given This position does not supervise any staff. This position may supervise work-study students and student labor if deemed appropriate by the Assistant Chief Information Officer

Minimum Qualifications
1. Associates or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
2. Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and PowerShell.
3. Strong knowledge of virtualized server environment
4. Experience with instructional technologies in classrooms and computer labs.
5. Strong foundation in system security and networking.
6. Strong interpersonal skills are a must, as this position interacts with other technical staff as well as end-users. 7. Previous work experience in a technical role within Information Technology is required.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Specific certifications pertaining to Microsoft or VMware vSphere systems administration and systems/network security.
2. Experience deploying and troubleshooting POS or campus “one-card” systems.
3. Experience with databases such as SQL.
4. Experience with access control and IP camera systems.
5. Experience with vSphere, including deploying and configuring virtualized servers.
6. Prior job experience in a similar role or environment is preferred.

Additional Responsibilities : The role may include other duties as assigned to support the overall operations and mission of the college. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as responsibilities may evolve based on institutional needs.

Work Autonomy : This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and requires the ability to perform duties independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision while meeting organizational goals and expectations.

Some evening and weekend work is required. The use of student break periods is necessary for completing projects while some facilities are not in use. Student move-in days and other events may fall on weekends and require staffing. Must be able to lift computer and classroom equipment (approximately 25-30lbs). Some tasks may require the use of a ladder.

There is a moderate amount of physical work required, such as walking between buildings and up and down stairs, working with physical equipment in tight places, installing equipment into server racks, etc.

Due to the unpredictability of system and network level issues, this position is considered on-call in order to expedite resolutions and meet acceptable service levels.

Salary Range: $40,000 - $44,000
