PART-TIME Nanny & Household Manager Needed – New Canaan, CT

Schedule: Monday-Friday 1 pm – 7 pm, 30 hrs a week guaranteed

About the Family

Family of five · Three school-age children · Live-out, full-time, long-term. They are a professional couple in New Canaan looking for an experienced, organized, and reliable Nanny / Household Manager to become a trusted part of how their household runs. This is a long-term role for someone who is as comfortable getting three kids to their activities on time as they are keeping a busy home running smoothly. The family’s three kids are independent, school-age, and busy. They’re in school most of the day, active in after-school activities, and frequently on playdates. This is not infant or toddler care — there are no diapers, no bottles, no entertaining a newborn for eight hours. What the kids need is a steady, capable adult who keeps the afternoons running: picking them up, getting them where they need to be, feeding them well, and being a calm, trustworthy presence. That said, childcare is a primary responsibility, and they take it seriously. They are looking for genuine childcare competence, sound judgment, and someone the kids enjoy being around — not a babysitter looking for an easy shift.

Responsibilities

• Childcare (the priority)
  1. After-school pickup and supervision
  2. Driving the kids to and from activities, lessons, and playdates (family car provided)
  3. Preparing the kids’ dinners and snacks — light cooking: reheating, simple pasta, and straightforward kid-friendly meals (not from-scratch gourmet)
  4. Supervising swimming in home pool — water-safety awareness is essential
  5. Full-day coverage a plus on the many days that come up: school days off, snow days, sick days, and summer days after camp lets out
• Household management & family assistance (highly valued) When the kids don’t need hands-on attention, this is where your time goes, and it’s roughly half the job:
  1. Staying on top of the children’s laundry
  2. Keeping common areas tidy
  3. Loading/unloading the dishwasher and light dish work, especially around meals.
  4. Preparing and prepping foods for the kids
  5. Running errands: grocery shopping, receiving grocery deliveries, dropping off packages
  6. Being present to let in and oversee home-maintenance professionals during their visits
  7. Helping book and coordinate home-maintenance appointments
  8. Generally providing leverage for two working parents keeping up with a busy home and three kids

The family thinks of this as a team effort. Both parents are around often and frequently work from home, so you won’t be running the household alone — but they need a partner we can hand things to and trust they’ll get done.

Ideal Candidate

• The ideal person leans more “capable, organized, trustworthy household professional” than “babysitter”
• Solid childcare experience and genuine competence with school-age kids
• Confidence and instinct for household management and organization — you notice what needs doing and do it
• Strong, proactive communication
• Comfortable, safe, and confident behind the wheel
• Water-safety awareness for pool supervision
• A high degree of responsibility, discretion, and trustworthiness
• A team player who takes ownership and doesn’t need to be managed minute to minute

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
• Confident swimmer / comfortable supervising children in a pool
• Verifiable childcare references
• Successful completion of a background check
• Non-smoker

Additional Details

• Family home is approximately 5,000 sq. ft
• A family car is provided for all driving and errands.
